Acid Etch Anodize

We offer Type II Class 1 acid etch anodize, which provides a more matted or low gloss finish and is proven to be more environmentally friendly than traditional caustic etch anodize. The process removes approximately 90% less aluminum material, utilizes less water, produces less waste, but in our experience, it usually takes a little longer to process than traditional caustic etch processes.

Why Acid Etch Anodize

  • Superior Finish - Produces a frostier, more matte, and uniform finish.
  • Hides Defects - Hides tiny defects in the aluminum surface such as bearing lines, die lines, minor corrosion, and scratches.
  • Reduces Glare - Because of its frostier matte finish, it significantly reduces the amount of glare and reflectiveness of the finished material. You can expect the gloss level to be 1/4 to 1/5 that of a traditional anodize finish.
  • Enhanced Durability - The viscosity of acid etch anodize is similar to that of water. The etching medium will no longer collect in small holes or recesses in aluminum extrusions or narrow channels, providing enhanced durability of the finished product.
  • Eco-Friendly Anodize - Thin-walled material and parts with tight tolerances will see approximately 1/10 of the aluminum metal removal compared to traditional caustic etch anodize. The process generates 80-85% less landfill waste.
